The Big Island

. As the name implies, the Big Island is the largest of the Hawaiian islands. In fact, the Big Island is so big that you could fit all the other major islands of Hawaii into its borders twice over. With this size comes an extraordinary diversity of geography -- from the dry, desert-like conditions of the Kona side to the rainforests of the Hilo side, from the barren landscape of one of the world's most active volcanoes to lush valleys and waterfalls on the Hamakua Coast, from the dizzying heights of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, to some of the most breathtaking shoreline in the world. There are endless opportunities to hike, bike, fish, play golf and tennis, even snow ski in the winter, or just laze at one of the beautiful beaches that surround the island. The Big Island offers something for everyone.
